Renewed Materials, Inc. (RMI) was founded by interior architect and renowned designer Demir Hamami with the objective to provide sophisticated recycled surfaces to the sustainable design community. With a focus on social and environmental responsibility, Hamami has honed his vision for more than a decade to provide a variety of uniquely beautiful surfacing solutions produced directly from salvaged waste.
Concerned about the heavy smoke pollutants caused by burning fine flake aluminum mill scraps in conventional recycling methods, Hamami developed a creative alternative with no hazardous footprint and launched RMI’s ALKEMI-polyester in 2005. The ALKEMI line expanded to ALKEMI-acrylic in 2011 and ALKEMI-copper in 2015, and currently boasts the highest recycled content of any surfacing material available in the world.
In addition to developing and marketing innovative and environmentally sustainable products, RMI is deeply committed to giving back and donates a portion of all earnings to Kiva, an international non-profit program with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty, and The Starfish Programme, an educational scholarship plan for mothers and at-risk youth based in Uganda.
